John
Colby (born 1955)
John Colby was born in the Boston
area. At the age of eighteen, he sustained a head injury and multiple body traumas.
Colby spent many years in therapeutic rehabilitation programs before attending
Gateway Arts in 1990. Colby is an interesting conversationalist with an unusual
sense of humor. Drawing with ball point pen, he creates abstract images with
thousands of delicate lines that weave and overlap until they all but fill the
page. In addition to his talent as a visual artist, he writes poetry. Colby’s
work has been exhibited at the Gateway Gallery in Brookline, as well as other
galleries in Massachusetts. His work was also represented at the Outsider Art
Fair in New York City in 1999 and 2004.
